Campagnola Pruning Compressors are heavy duty commercial units designed to operate any of Campagnola's pneumatic pruning tools at maximum efficiency. The compressors represent the latest in innovative design and technology and are engineered to meet the rigorous demands of field pruning operations. PTO Driven Compressors are very popular and are used widely in orchards and vineyards.
It depends upon your needs. If you are operating one or two hand-held shears, a small gas-powered compressor like Brewt Power Systems Honda-powered LB-10 unit is perfectly adequate. You can even run two of the Campagnola SE-4 extension-mounted tools with an LB-10.
However, if you are simultaneously pruning with several tools or if you are operating a high air volume tool like the ST-3 chain saw, you should consider a PTO powered compressor -- particularly if you already have a small tractor with 540 RPM PTO (300 RPM is the recommended speed for driving the compressor). The PTO compressors require little horsepower -- any compact tractor will run an Ecoplus 520, for instance -- and they produce a lot more air than the gasoline powered compressors.
